EEC 116 VLSI Design

VLSI stands for very large scale integration. A 4 unit class on CMOS devices, its layout, circuits, and functional units. It goes over VLSI fabrication and design methodologies. The prerequisites are passing EEC 110A or EEC 111 with a C- or better, and it is recommended that you have taken EEC 18(0A) already. It is typically taught by Dr. Bevan Baas ([email protected]) during Fall Quarters.

EEC 146A Integrated Circuits Fabrication

A 4-unit course on the theory and experiments of basic fabrication processes for MOS IC, including oxidation, photolithography, impurity diffusion, metallization, wet chemical etching, and characterization. There is a laboratory component at the CNM2 along with simulations, as you would be designing and fabricating a semiconductor wafer. The prerequisites are passing EEC 140A with a C- or better. It is typically taught by Dr. Erkin Şeker ([email protected]) during Fall Quarters.

EEC 146B Advanced Integrated Circuits Fabrication

A 3-unit course on fabrication processes for CMOS VLSI, specifically isolation, projection alignment, epilayer growth, thin gate oxidation, and rapid thermal annealing.. The laboratory projects examine deposition of thin films, ion implantation, process simulation, anisotropic plasma etching, sputter metallization, and C-V analysis. The prerequisite is passing EEC 146A with a C- or better. This course has not been offered in a long time.

For electrical engineering, we will merely show you three (although realistically two) courses you can take related to manufacturing. We won't overwhelm you with too much with the possibilities.
